UTYLBENZOTRIAZOLE (BBT) HAS PROTECTION CAPABILITIES far above common tolyltriazole (TT) or benzotriazole (BT). BBT is a SuperAzole (SA). Wincom has utilized this SuperAzole as the foundation of the Wintrol® SA high performance products for the control of copper corrosion and the reduction of cobalt leaching.
COPPER CONTROL
TT and BT are the materials most commonly used to control copper corrosion in cooling towers, automotive cooling systems and metal working fluids. Wincom has developed Wintrol® SA-35Na and SAM-90 with superior ability to protect copper.
The chart below shows the time it takes to tarnish a copper specimen after treatment for 24 hours @ 250 ppm of BT, TT, SA-35Na and SAM-90. The SuperAzoles both outperform the common azoles.

COBALT LEACHING
Cobalt leaching from tungsten-carbide tools is known to shorten tool life and cause problems with waste water disposal. The use of triazoles to control cobalt leaching and to extend tool life is a common practice.
The chart below shows the test results of a cobalt leaching test using 250 ppm of TT, BT, Wintrol® A-90, Wintrol® SA-35Na and Wintrol® SAM-90. The SuperAzoles both outperform the common azoles.
